Now it's boring because Venom won't hurt any of Peter's loved ones in canon, and Marvel would never allow him to tell anyone else that he's Spider-Man, so his potential for messing up Peter's life is limited to beating him up physically.
And since Marvel nerfed Venom's ability to shapeshift and camoflage, his bouts with Spider-Man are reduced to boring brawls that go on until Peter find a Zippo or an air horn.
Venom is better as an anti-hero. His character doesn't lend very much into villainy.
