>>100324899The problem is that writing a compelling female character would mean that they would need flaws and be able to grow and develop throughout the story. Most people who are really into animation as a form of storytelling see this as making a character weak because they are a woman (and for some reason idiots that make these claims are the ones who are gaining more traction and popularity in the media). What they fail to realize is that a character who does not struggle or have a goal they wish to achieve is boring and bland so it leads to the question of why should we be watching or reading this story at all.
Then you have these people who look at the concept of fighting for love of another or their relationship as "objectifying that person (usually a woman) as a trophy" which is just not true. The idea spawns from wanting to be with (or be so madly in love with) the person so badly that it causes our protagonist to face impossible odds and face questions about themselves that they would rather avoid. Its more about how love can make you grow and change as person. Plus the fact that things like relationships, families, and companionship (platonic or not) are things that we all strive for in some way so it feels real to us when we see a character do the same. If you understand this then you will find that writing any kind of character can be a breeze as well as provide insight into your psyche on what YOU want out of life. Remember that stories reflect their author's minds.
TL;DR: Just write a character with needs, wants, goals and aspirations anon and you'll find that you'll be writing better characters no matter their gender or color. Something that the industry needs to remember.
