Seriously this film had "The Flash problem " times ten. So many of its charcaters are so powerful that any one of them could have ended the film on the spot, several times. The movie even added the "14 million bit" to handwave away all the other options but even before that several of the heroes, and even Thanos at times had to get barry allen brain for there to be a film.

that's always going to be a problem with superheroes, but in this case it was kind of the point of the movie. Scarlet Witch should've destroyed the soul stone, Quill should'n't have been a goddamn moron, Thor should'n't have drawn out killing Thanos just to get his little speech in. Thanos won because he was more ruthless and calculating

but as for inconsistency in powers, I think Strange's and Iron Man's powers are vague enough that it's not really a problem for me. you can always hand wave it. why didn't Strange do x at this particular moment? the spell was on cooldown.

One, they accomplish that vorpal effect when people reach into closing portals. They likely can't just create a portal that's halfway through someone without them instantly being through it.
Otherwise there'd be no need for Mirror Dimension, every sorceror battle would be a quick-draw "who can cut the other guy in half first" contest.

Second, barring that, It's clear to the sorcerors that Thanos has the almighty Space Gem. Portal shenanigans would probably be more dangerous to you than to them. Mirror Dimension shit nearly got Strange black-holed.

I get that you're opening the shield so that they don't surround you but why in the fuck would you put away your laser blaster spears and run into melee? You just created a fucking bottleneck. Because Thanos was in possession of the Power Stone, Reality Stone and Space Stone at that point. If Thanos didn't have any of those 3 Infinity Stones, using a portal to severe his arm off might actually work but sadly that isn't the case. With the Space Stone, he got control over the domain of space which allows him to force the portal to stay open. With the Power Stone, he would outright resist the portal closure. With the Reality Stone, he would rewrite reality so that he arm was never inside the portal and the portal never exist. Only an idiot would think that a portal is sufficient enough to defeat Thanos. And you sir are an idiot.

The fight itself establishes that Thanos needs to be able to close his hand in to a fist to use any of the stones' abilities. This is aptly demonstrated when Iron-Man gets his nano-clamp on the infinity gauntlet, which leaves Thanos relatively (He's still a Hulk-tier bruiser) helpless.

Remember what happened when Quill tried to shoot her, or when she tried to gut herself with the knife? Thanos had the reality stone during their entire interaction. If there was any moment Gamora was in any legitimate danger, he'd just use the reality stone to prevent it.

The only real way she could have killed herself is if Thanos wasn't around to stop her.

When Thanos was tied down and couldn't use the Gauntlet,why did they have Spiderman and Iron Man try to pull it off instead of opening a portal, pulling thanos' hand through, then closing it.

Because the creation of the portal require it to be perfectly timed and perfectly placed or else you will suffer from the attack. Make it too big and it will take a while for the portal to close. Make it too small and you might miss portaling the target and get hit instead.

It only worked with Dormammu because time didn't exist in the Dark Dimension until Strange brought the Time Stone in. Dormammu was outside of time, and had to experience and remember every loop, which went on for ages depending on who you ask. Thanos exists in time and his memories would be rewound with the loop.

Likewise with Strange remembering, but he was betting on his ability to take the punishment could outlast Dormammu's patience for it.

The entire titan fight was built on the team keeping Thanos from using the Gauntlet. Either Thanos was holding the idiot ball for even letting them pin him in the first place or the team was holding it for not portalling his arm off while he was pinned and couldn't use the stones.

Granted that would have solved many issues.

I'm not 100% sure if he used the soul stone for anything in the movie, or none that I picked up on, so at worst he could have stalled on that to get to the other 5, then use the mind stone to find her anyways. With him actively hunting all the stones, there's only so long she could have hid from him, and even killing herself wouldn't be a permanent solution with the time stone in play.

The creation of the portal is stationary. The created portal can't be moved from the location of which the portal is created. You would have to move Thanos to the location of the portal. Even while being pinned down physically and metally, Thanos was still capable of moving somewhat like when he responded to Quill's inquiry. Attempting to move him might disrupt Mantis from locking him down mentally.

Headcanon explanation here, but it seems that Thanos is basically just toying with them for the first half of the fight. The film does establish that he does like fucking with people (His 'fight' with The Hulk being described as 'his fun', him toying with Quill). When they do come dangerously close to actually getting the glove off of him, he seems to stop fucking around and actually calls on the power of the stones to deal with the heroes, which does basically instantly take out half of them.

Pretty much this. Every action that isn't getting the Stones first and destroying them/using them against him is a poor stalling tactic. She went looking for the Soul Stone and eventually found a map, she has zero way of knowing if it's the only map to it (Red Skull serving as the doorman for "all the seekers" implies it is not).

She probably felt her best course was to get the gem away from him leaving him weaker for Thor and (to her) his dubious plan to Axe him.

As far as the Guardians knew, killing Gamora was the only way to protect the Soul Stone's location. None of them knew or expected Thanos to be able to undo death, which is why that was Gamora's solution in the first place. You are intentionally misunderstanding the point of discussion, the problem is that she acted stupidly instead of not acting stupidly. If she knew her death was the only way to impede Thanos' search for the stones AND she was perfectly okay withdying to keep him from victory, then logically she should've committed sudoku.

The glove was already off him, the whole fight was based on the rule the writers themselves made when they said he needed to close his fist to use the Gauntlet.
They had a full 3 minutes or so with an imbolized and powerless thanos and they blew it having pete and tony pull the glove off by force instead of, say turning him to butterflies while he couldn't use the reality gem to undo it or the space gem to dodge it.

I really hate how this is the go-to defense. The Star-Lord scene by itself shows that Strange's look at the timelines wasn't absolute. If Peter didn't attack Thanos they WOULD'VE gotten the Gauntlet off and fixed everything.

She has no way of knowing that she destroyed the only way to find Soul Stone Planet. Just that she DID know the way to it, and it would expedite his getting to it. She didn't know he needed her to be there (nor did he).

Most people won't spontaneously kill themselves to inconvenience someone else. The movie lends itself to the idea that the stones can find each other, with 4 or more Thanos could probably just home in on the Soul Stone.

It was only physically hidden; it was mystically held out of reach by the Test.

In a story about charcaters with powers so great they can do next to anything, you open yourself up to logical flaws like this.

Having your Time wizard use his time magic to tell the audience how he cant just "Insert obvious solution here" instead of him using the time magic to solve the problem is just a saftey valve.

The 14 million scene doesn't even excuse things that happened before it, like Gamorra GOING TO THANOS.

The writers basically used the time stone to say "The way we wrote this is the only possible solution becasue we say so" instead of writing a story were rhe charcaters behaved reasonably with the powers , motivations and personalities they established for them.

Thanos is a Galactic Warlord. He loves to fight. This is shown in the first 5 minutes, where he fights Hulk for no reason with a Stone at his disposal.

The writers set up Thanos's weakness was he needed to physically close his fist to use the stones. Several times in the fight he was unable to use the Gauntlet long enough for Strange to one shot him with a spell or the time stone.

Peter's webs were enough to make Thanos just a super strong purple dude for as long as it took him to rip the webs off, that was plenty of time to turn him into butterflies or make a portal under him like he did in Thor and then close it while Thanos was falling to cleave him in half.

Or why not do the Shadow clone thing when they had him totally locked down at the end so that one strange could bind his right arm whilst the others aged him to dust/made him a baby/ turned him into a butterfly/froze him in time.

They had already acknowledged he was invincible to them. They had no way to know he'd be aware Gamora knew about the Soul Stone. That he'd set a reality trap. It's always on and it's always at 110%, that's why it needs a housing, and that's why the Nova Corps and the Guardians had to keep the Black Aster from landing. If the stone even touched Xandar, it would've made the whole planet go Krypton. Knowing that, and knowing that Thanos pressed the Power Stone against Thor's face to compel Loki to give up the tesseract, it's safe to say that an Asgardian can at least withstand a few seconds of Power Stone torture without dying. Aside from that we see the Warrior's Three transporting the Aether in a case of some sort. I don't remember what it did in that movie because it was bad.

IW is chock full of "From a Certain Point of View Moments" because the writers set up a story that doesn't actually function you straight up ignore all the solutions. (Thus the Strange scene that literally says "ignore all the solutions. ")

Gamora snuck into Thanos' base while he wasn't on the war path, there's a good chance she knows the layout to it already and has been planning on killing him for like her entire life. You're assuming things that aren't stated or even really implied. Thanos took his daughters from worlds he slaughtered half of. He still loves Gamora even though she's tried to kill him at least once. I'm pretty sure that's the goddamn point, he slaughters worlds and recruits new soldiers from them all the time. He'd absolutely take Loki, an invaluable tool, in as a henchman if he thought it was legit, because he isn't at all afraid that he'll slip up and let himself get killed. That's like, kind of his thing throughout the movie, his absolute self-assuredness. Regardless, Loki always plays the long game, that has been his character from day one. Which is often played for laughs, because physically confronting him when he's trying to play that game fucks him up. That's the joke of him getting smashed by Hulk, he's this super genius playing 4D chess but in reality you can just smash the fuck out of him when you get the chance. Direct physical confrontation is never, ever something he actively starts. If you're going to tell me he did that as an absolute resort, it needs to be more than just vaguely implied that that's the case. How about he's pledging his loyalty, then Thanos tries to turn away and motion for his guards to kill Loki, and THEN Loki pulls a knife like "oh shit he's not gonna let me trick him I've gotta act fast." Just seems far less like bullshit to me that way.

Thanos knows Loki is an opportunist, he knows that he loves his brother and will likely double cross Thanos if it means saving Thor, and what Loki is offering is of frankly dubious usefulness. Killing him before he inevitably becomes a problem later is the best choice.

For that to be a stupid idea she'd have to operate on the knowledge that Thanos KNOWS she knows where the soul stone is, a fact that she is not aware of until after Thanos takes her. To her she's just going to try and save the reality stone/kill Thanos

Regardless, even if she didn't go with them then Thanos either

a) Kills most/all of the Guardians to draw her out
b) Says "fuck it, you space fucks offer me nothing", leave and do the rest of the plot of the movie, come back and mind stone the Guardians into taking them TO her, then the Soul Stone part of the plot happens as the last stone instead of the 4th.

There's nothing in the movie that's inherently flawed with her logic for Gamora to go to Thanos

It's watchable I suppose. I didnt hate it when I watched it but kind of like the first avengers movie the longer you have to think about it the more you find little things that bug you. There's a lot of *wink wink nudge nudge* references to the other movies and a lot of characters try way too hard to be funny. Thanos is a pretty entertaining character to watch but you'll see every twist coming a mile away. It's a flawed as hell movie but it's entertaining and in the end that was all it was really trying to be.

Nope. They were there for the Reality Stone. Even intended to try and beat Thanos to it when they saw he got there first and was interrogating the Collector. Then Drax forced the encounter and made a loud clanging noise as his body fell. I can't remember if Thanos called them out after that; I think he did. And while Quill was telling everyone the action plan, Gamora just stepped out to confront Thanos.

Apart from that, Gamora didn't think Thanos knew she really knew where the Soul Stone was. Perhaps she expected him to torture the information out of her, which was why she wanted Quill to kill her. Just didn't expect for Thanos to have already gotten to Nebula or that he invaded her memories and found out that Gamora told Nebula about her knowledge of the Soul Stone's location.

In fact didn't Thanos get super lucky that the Guardians found Thor? They didn't know the Reality Stone was there until Thor told them, which is again not something Thanos could consider enough to lay a trap. Unless he wanted to just fuck around and trap ANYONE that tried to stop him, but that goes against his own words that the trap was specifically for the Guardians.

It's implied that they don't know about Xandar.
But Thanos is making a lot of "noise", and he knows that the Guardians know the stone is there on Xandar, (they put it there), so he's patient enough to lurk in Knowhere long enough to see when they'll show. He's a cunning guy with three Infinity Stones, it's hard to say how much is circumstance and how much is cosmic intuition.

He also knows that the Power Stone was being sought by the Collector, and there's a cut scene with Gamora's contact and the Collector.
So Thanos either presumed Gamora would know about the Reality Stone on Knowhere, or the scene that was cut implied it.

Honestly, the only thing that would have changed is Banner would have definitely died in space. Strange still knew who the avengers were and had no problem finding Tony. If the Sanctem/NYC was being attacked he would have just portaled to Tony at that point and told him to come with him because NYC was being attacked, which would have convinced him to come about as much as Banner did.

I just saw the movie again.

The planes showed up at the end when the big wheel things breached the barrier.

I think they were saving them for a last resort if the soldiers couldn't hold the line or if the barrier went down, and for those giant tower things.

1. Thanos finds the Mind Stone (in the sceptre) and is exposed to prophetic visions of doom from it (like Tony), and being a nihilist, decides on his philosophy of "half gotta go".
2. He's thrown off of Titan "they thought I was mad" and starts building up his eventual army.
3. Either Titan suffers some unrelated catastrophe or Thanos attacks it and kills them all, so there's no one to contradict his "prophecy", and an example of "what happens when my warning is ignored".
4. He's been selling bullshit to people (or crazy and he himself believes it) like telling Gamora how she was starving and ragged as a child (we see in flashback she is really neither)
5. Strange realizes that Tony, the Futurist would be able to decipher the true events on Titan (either Thanos attack or the true nature of the castastrophe)
6. He bargains for Stark's life, even over his own, everyone else is inconsequential on Titan.
7. Nebula is needed to get Stark off of Titan, and possibly help him uncover the truth there.
8. Tony ends up being key to revealing the Real Truth to Thanos, and the mad hypocrisy of his "mission" at the climax of a big battle against all remaining heroes.

It's very likely he's projecting his timeless Astral Form back and forth in time to witness events, and not actually living through them over and over again physically. He's likely observing himself and his own actions too.

This is not a trick Thanos could replicate without a lot of hassle.

Literally every problem fans can name with Thanos winning can be countered by him getting one of the stones. Either by using a stone to stop it, or using a stone to get another stone:
-Mind Stone means he can manipulate anybodies mind to make them do whatever he wants.
-Power Stone means he has plot and logic ignoring strength, allowing him to just power through most of anything that tries to stand in his way.
-Space Stone means he can literally go anywhere at any time just by thought.
-Reality Stone means he can change events in the reality that he is around into being whatever he wants.
-Time Stone means that anything that doesn't go his way, he can just rewind with the knowledge to prevent it from not going his way, and win anyways.
-Soul Stone I have no idea what it does for him.

With Gamora, nothing could have stopped it. She kills herself, he rewinds time and then uses reality to stop her from doing it.
With trying to make a portal to cut his arm off, he uses space to teleport away, or reality to change the portal into butterflies, or power to wave his hand and have the wind burst blow Strange back.

You would literally have to name a line of events that keeps Thanos from ever getting the Space Stone in the first place, as well as stopping him from getting Time, Reality, and Mind. He would probably lose if he only had Power and Soul.
