Aang is Nepalese/Tibetian if we're going to take the mountain Buddhist aesthetic at face value. Meanwhile, Korra is Inuit and brown and is interested in both sexes, not black or gay.
In any case, Aang is liked because his show was good while Korra's was bad in every aspect.

Nope, just didn't like it because it was horribly written compared to the original. In fact, the forced romance even in just the first season was annoying and shoehorned as hell.
For the record, I liked Korra as a protagonist, just didn't like how they chose to write her.
