honestly, there was probably no way it could have been better made from a plot perspective with this many character and locations.
The biggest waste is that we didn't get a buildup for Thanos. He ended up being one of the better MCU villains, but he would have been much more effective if he was established earlier. They could have done all the Gamora stuff in GOTG and that would also make her an interesting character in the first place. He would have been goat if he had actual buildup.
Pros:

>Thor and Rocket arc, Thor overall got a lot of love
>same with Strange, who is significant throughout, and gets the best 1v1
>Scarlet Witch/Vision arc was handled well enough
>comedy was good when it actually hit, which was mostly in natural conversations, not actual jokes (Missouri is on Earth, dipshit)
>good action, can't really ask for more

Cons:

>too much exposition. everything should have been a known quantity at this point. it would give more space for character development, of which there was almost none.
>at the same time, a lot was done off-screen. we should have seen Xandar destroyed, for example, even if it was just a post-credit scene in GOTG 2.
>overreliance on Iron Man, not enough Cap
>Tony's new armor is bullshit and uninteresting. the mechanical parts were what made it cool originally
>Star-Lord is a bit much but at least we get to appreciate how much of an idiot he really is
>I wish we saw actually half the universe dying and going into chaos, instead of just seeing half the cast die
