Something I feel needs to be said, it looks like Pearl is drawing Rose's sword, but in her old outfit, the one that got the toy leak. Doesn't that strike anyone else here as odd? Why would she revert back to that outfit if she was going to have to shapeshift into Rose anyways? How was she able to get close to Pink Diamond in that outfit in the first place? Nothing adds up, unless you assume that there's other Pearls that look like the CG Pearl, and that Pearl would have to be aware of this. I think the silhouette is left intentionally dark there to hide the fact that it's not CG Pearl, its a duplicate that White Diamond made with the sole purpose and intention of framing Rose Quartz for Pink Diamond's death. Our Pearl is fully aware of what White Diamond did,, she probably witnessed Pink's death, or somehow our Pearl has a mental tie to White Diamond. Enough of one to where Pearl can sense general plans and intents, but not enough to where they know exactly where each other is.

There's also the possibility that the recording in the moon base orb was edited to further hide the truth, or as a contingency plan to tear the Rebels apart should any of them survive and make it to the moon base.

It’s literally just a silhouette with no background. It looks like a somewhat abstract representation of an event that could’ve happened anywhere.

And even though we know PD was shattered in Korea and what that spot looks like now, we don’t exactly know what the location looked like thousands of years ago during the actual event. We can only guess that it was probably outdoors judging by the way there’s no remains of a larger structure surrounding the abandoned palanquin being left, but even that isn’t exactly confirmed.

What’s wrong with that part? It seems to me that pearls are normally the only gems that can get very close to a diamond. Yellow and Blue even allowed their pearls to sit in on their very private conversation in Pink’s throne room which I’m sure they wouldn’t have wanted any other kind of gem present for. Now, I understand that maybe there’s a bit of a difference between a diamond’s personal pearl and just some random unidentified pearl in cases like that. And I certainly get that a pearl definitely couldn’t request a formal audience with a dismond like a high class gem. But, I think it still wouldn’t be hard for a sneaky pearl to just kinda slip into a diamond’s ranks by saying “oh yeah I’m the new pearl that was sent over, here to serve you” and fool Pink Diamond in a similar way that Sapphire just kinda rused Blue Diamond by pretending she was supposed to be where she was.

Deep down, Lapis is lonely. She was grudgingly nice to Peridot just to please Steven at first. Eventually, she latches onto Peridot just out of mutual need. And I've gotta say, their relationship certainly isn't the healthiest one on the show.

I think Lapis really needs to learn how to love Lapis before she can really be in a relationship that isn't codependent and weird. Hopefully that'll happen while she's in space.

Although I also kinda want her to just never come back... and then at the very end Steven mentions that even years later they never heard from her again. Just because the story is from Steven's perspective... and sometimes, people really do just never come back. That could be powerful. Just a subtle reminder that they didn't forget about her and that's it.

It's a terrible lesson that just because someone apologized means you can and should drop everything you felt about being wronged just because they did so. We don't even know what Peridot did to her aside from looking at her in a wrong way in the ship. She gave her the tape recorder with an apology which Lapis promptly broke for no good reason. Lapis hasn't done any effort to have a fruitful relationship with Jasper or Peridot, but somehow she still wanted to be with the two of them in her own ways.

Here is how I think how it happend.
PD came out as an off color Diamond, not fitting within the perfect picture that the other Diamonds represented. While YD and BD cared about PD, WD didn't accept her this way. Her existense could be seen as weakness within the matriarchy and eventually threaten their authority. Indeed PD failed with her earth colony so this was where WD drew the line and decided to get rid of her sister. She made a special Pearl as a "gift" to PD. One that could be mind controlled from a distance. One day she activated her secret weapon to end her sister once and for all. Perhaps a deal was made between Rose and WD that the latter would take the blame in trade for a free earth. Noticing as well that newer HW gems seem to know less about what happened to earth exactly, the earth failure is something the Diamonds want it to be something to forget about. However being slick as she is, WD betrayed Rose about leaving earth alone with one last corruption attack. Thinking it would end the rebellion and therefore the last traces of her embarrasing sister.

Makes me wonder what will happen once the truth is revealed to everyone and how YD and BD react to WD's horrific act.

She is identical to other pearls. Only clothes, hair, (sometimes) color, and gem placement are different among gem types. Gems mostly seem to tell other gems apart from eachother if they personally work with them. For example all the amethysts knew who eachother were but they were having trouble teaching our Amethyst to tell them apart, even though as off colors they have more distinctive features from gem to gem than other groups of identical gem types like rubies The only gem we’ve seen that was ever immediately recognizable to a wide variety of gems that didn’t know her was Rose Quartz, but she’s a very special case for the fact that she’s a famous war legend, and it seems like all the other gems of her type were bubbled not long into their operation, judging from the way Rose is always referred to as just Rose Quartz as though she’s the only one, never “Rose Quartz number xyz etc.” like Peridot’s full numbered name.

When dealing with the matter of how well gems recognize eachother it’s also notable that even Blue Diamond didn’t recognize the Sapphire or Ruby that once fused right in front of her and joined the rebellion when she met them in a certain unexpected context after thousands of years.

Also Pearl did change her clothes and hair a couple times, making her less recognizable.

Peri’s an era 1 gem and barely knows anything about the war after the massive coverup. I don’t think she even heard the rumors about Rose Quartz. Other law abiding era 2 gems like Zircon similarly know almost nothing about the war. Zircon needed to be granted super classified files to prepare for her case, which she unfortunately only got a chance to skim and didn’t have much information anyway.

Her story makes it seem like it erupted around her without her noticing what was going on til it was too late, and then she got poofed pretty early on in the chaos and was stuck in a mirror ever since. Amy had a hard time telling her whole damn facet apart because there were a ton of them and she met them only shortly.
They immediately knew who she was because Earth was so limited and they missed precisely one Amethyst.
Not sure they remembered the precise layout and recognised her by looks alone, but she sure looked Alpha to them.
Anyway, it seems Earthers are very distinct among Gems. If they could blend in well, they would not be discriminated against.
So it has to be an attitude to them, a culture you see nowhere else.
And I think it's because they are fun and close-knit.
Which might be an outcome of their segregation, true. But I think since Gems don't change much, it has to be Pink's influence in their making that sets them apart. Much as Yellow's Gems are haughty and officious, Blue's are quiet and passive. So Pink's Gems we met so far are likely an indication of her.
Which means, Pink must have been a rather social one who always wanted a family around her. Thus the motherly Roses, the rambunctious Amethysts.
They are similar to human family dynamics. So either Pink envied humans so she modeled her Gems after them, or she loved humans because they were like what she always wanted to have: a family.

Holly Blue and Aquamarine make me think otherwise. And Topaz doesn’t fit into the mold of what you seem to think Yellow’s gems are generally like either.

The only Pink Diamond gems we’ve seen have been quartz soldiers. I always figured that comradery and a sense of humor was just kind of a general quartz trait (at least among Amethysts and probably Rose Quartzes) because it better serves their ability to do their job, working together under great stress in wartime.

Also let’s not forget that Jasper is actually a Pink Diamond gem, and while she is clearly starved for companionship and fiercely loyal to Pink, she has trouble playing with the other kids nicely and is more of a loner than a family person.

Groups of Rubies don’t seem to operate too differently from the Amethysts. In Garnet’s flashback in The Answer the Ruby trio was similarly chummy. Other than that we simply haven’t seen many groups of the same gem type all in one place so it’s hard to say. We usually only ever see individual gems in mixed company, actually. It’s kinda frustrating how little we really know about gem society when we look at how few gems we’ve actually even seen and need to piece together what parts of their behavior may or may not be significant.

True, the samples are pretty one-sided in that all Earthers we met are Quartzes and all Quartzes we met are Earthers.
But we see that Jasper is showing signs of mistreatment and fear of whips while our Holly Blue Agate harps on about Earthers being undiciplined. So the show tells us that they are singled out and stereotyped, suggesting this only colony of Pink is known for the Gems from there being different.
Although, I think Agates are technically a type of Quartz.

Jasper probably would’ve had less of a stick up her ass in different circumstances but she’d still probably be like Skinny and less “clique-ey” than the others.

Why do people keep saying that? Small PD perfectly fits the theme of the Diamonds.

They're all balanced against each other. Opposite, but even. YD and BD are the same size, but reflect each other. YD is sharp, angular, masculine, and holds everything in. She's loud, angry. BD is smooth, curved, feminine, and over-expressive of her emotions. She's quiet and sad.

WD and PD would then also be reflective of each other. PD is small, childlike, bratty. WD is huge, likely far older looking than the others. She's going to be very in-control.

PD's issues are going to arise from the fact that she was a shit with a bad attitude that was likely babied for most of her existence, not from the fact that she's short.

Yeah, I was hoping to see that one too. It’s annoying when the creators change their mind about things and make tweaks to their plans as they go along and end up shitting on stuff the more vigilant fans were counting on seeing down the road. The show’s done this a couple times now and even though I get that it’s a normal part of the creative process, it’s still annoying. Especially with a show that relies on its lore foreshadowing to build hype and then gives us so many long hiatuses to just stew in speculation during.

I still kinda like the new design fine on its own, though. I just really want to see what the old design they had in mind woulda looked like. Maybe they’ll put it in an artbook.

Only one really getting shafted is Amethyst, and it's been pretty established that she is indeed the most worthless one of the trio, and it's even been discussed whether or not she's beneath Steven at this point.

Garnet doesn't get a lot of interesting episodes, but she's still the strong foundation of the group. Without her as the powerhouse, they couldn't get anything done. Not with Opal being such a fragile rarity.

Pearl is by far the oldest of the three and naturally has more story to tell, but given her fucking awful personality and general lacking in personal strength, it'll be up to Garnet, Steven and Amethyst to catch her when she inevitably goes astray after her backstory is finally revealed.

I remember getting hyped over fantheories and potential fusions when the show started and we first saw Opal. I thought Pearl/Garnet fusion was going to be badass. I didn't expect much out of a Steven/Amethyst fusion but Smokey has a godawful design and color palette. It's a shame that when they started to explore Garnet more the worst she got as a character. She has some funny moments and is a good leader but the Sapphire/Ruby stuff gets annoying fast, making her overemotional ruins her character.
Amethyst was at least a comic relief now she's just useless and down on herself.
The longer the show goes the more it's fucking up the cast's personalities. And it's not characters advancement either.

I’m barely even seeing a mix, to be honest. It’s just a slightly taller Lapis with a smaller nose and extra arms to me. I know where the Peridot parts are but they’re just slapped onto Lapis rather than mixed into a new gem I think.

When you see character model sheets they'll usually say something like "day" or "night" depending on how the character's color palette should change to suit the environmental lighting. Daytime outside light, late afternoon at sunset, indoor normal light, or say infront of a television outdoors at night. Regardless of what people say about SU's art quality, they are still far more diligent about defining a shitload of color shifts for their characters within environments than most shows.

She was a big jerk to Peridot on multiple occasions, tried to murder Connie and Greg, stole Andy’s barn, stole the Earth’s ocean, and she raped Jasper constantly in a mutually abusive relationship for a year. And she doesn’t really get any comeuppance for any of it, just reassurance from Steven that he’s sure she didn’t /mean/ to be a horrible person over and over again, she’s just suffering from trauma. The show seems to be trying to say these are mistakes she’s learning from but it never feels like she really grasps the full weight of a lot of them, especially since she just keeps on doing it.

The show rarely uses any real shading unless it's a special occasion (ie. lore episode, fights, drama, director wants to show off.) any other time it's flat coloring.

I didn’t mind Lars’s scene there. It was reassuring to me that Lars didn’t suddenly overnight just become a completely different person. The scene showed that even though he’s gotten some shit together, he still cares about a lot of the same things he cared about before he went to space. He’s the same person as before underneath, he’s just more capable and less of a coward now, but that doesn’t have to mean he’s also stopped being shallow. It also helps a lot that as soon as he started acting like a shit again, Steven and Connie both immediately call him out for it and tell him to knock it the fuck off, and then he actually does. If he lands back on Earth and is immediately a dick to Sadie over the same thing he’s said he’s over, then that’ll be writers fucking over his character. But as things are now I think they’re doing fine with him, and I appreciate they put some bumps in his road.

Lapis by contrast only ever seems to get worse and worse. She keeps on hurting people in her own interest and she doesn’t even seem sorry. Which might not be so bad, but she’s not doing it as like a villain that’s supposed to act like that, she’s supposed to be a “good guy” character, more or less, that we’re supposed to like, and Steven just goes on loving her and excusing her.

I liked the general idea of her still dealing with trauma and only really being kind with Steven but emotionally closed off with everyone else. But not having more episodes with her and Peridot's slowly developing friendship, or having anyone openly acknowledge the issue of the gems leaving her locked up in the mirror stunted her character arc.

It highlights the weakness of only allowing episodes to be told from Steven's perspective despite how much the cast has grown.

They didn't need any more episodes of her and Peridot doing jackshit at the meme barn because it was boring, relegating her to living with Peridot in the barn was the biggest detriment to her original potential by itself.
You're right that the inconsistency with her feelings toward the CGs was a waste. Instead of dropping her hatred for them just to include her in a baseball episode as soon as she was done raping Jasper, she should have spent one of her episodes getting over it or at least have been given a line where she explains why she suddenly stopped hating them.
Instead of making Steven and Peridot coddle her all the time she should have been treated like any other character that's pushed to better themselves after they act out and hurt others.
They needed to flesh her out instead of making her only character trait be that she's depressed and has ptsd, this is a show where almost all the characters have mental illnesses and ptsd but Lapis is the only one who gets treated special because of it and doesn't have anything to her beyond that.
Instead of turning her into a boring wet rag that just says #relateable depression things and makes meep morps with toilet water for two seasons they should have done literally anything else with her.
