>>95408431I'm not saying that the cartoon community's failure to expand and integrated into a mainstream is something that's negative. A niche hobby can have a lot of good, obscure content (such as, say, philosophy), and because they are so few in quantity and not that profitable, it incentivizes those select content creators to hone their talents. Meanwhile, if a niche is relatively expansive (think anime), that provides a lot of variation, and a system where bigger channels serve as a gateway drug rather than the main attraction. Let's Plays are more of an exception than the rule, precisely because of their extremely widespread appeal and influence. You won't see a huge scandal concerning Digibro because he's already established himself as an eccentric personality who garners equally eccentric fans. They also don't have to worry about artificially sanitizing their content for younger viewers (never mind the fact that they've likely been exposed to worse, it's mostly a measure taken to placate indignant parents).
The problem with the cartoon community is that it has neither quality, nor quantity; which is, ironically, the same quandary Western animation finds itself in. The few channels who choose to participate are not just eccentric and unconventional, they're actively garbage. MrEnter, Saberspark, PhantomStrider, Vailskibum94. What do these all share in common? That's right: they're shit and pandering to preconceived notions without really challenging popular opinion, instead hiding under the veil of conformity and blandness. Their analysis is also paltry, or in the case of Vailskibum94, emphatically absent. The few followers they manage to eke out are so rabid that they empty their bowels on anything remotely related to their God's videos. I guess horrible people manage to attract horrible fans. The environment is just so cult-like and not constructive in the slightest.
