Spinel and Pink Diamond and Lonely Pearl (games are canon fuck you all) suffered much from the lack of sun light and other types of light.
For Pink Diamond getting closed in a box without light was a literal punishment torture and the Diamonds knew it.
Lonely Pearl was closed in library since the war and she suffered too, samething for Spinel as the garden didn't seem to be near some light source of energy.
So they all need the sweet and sweet star light
