>Zutara fanfics Why do you bring up Zutara when it’s already been established to be just as bad, if not worse than, Maiko? Nobody here is arguing Zutara. Do you honestly believe that Zutarafags, who are shat upon every time they reveal themselves, to be wholly responsible for all the people who think Maiko is dumb?
>Plus they resemble each other with similar scrawny faces, body types and even rough tobacco voices. Unless they are complete narcissists, I don’t see how this would matter.
>On top of that both are angsty in their own ways. And here’s the key phrase: “in their own ways”. Zuko’s gotten a stick shoved so far up his ass in his quest for honor and redemption, that he’s forgetting what those words actually mean or how to have fun or deal with emotions unrelated to that, and has closed himself off to human interaction. Mai is a stoic who was afraid to show emotion and has just become the stoic mask she wears. Their relationship does nothing with either of these. Zuko isn’t pushed to open up more, act human, and enjoy life again, and Mai isn’t pushed to break through her apathetic demeanor and show that she cares about something. Their relationship provides no interesting story, character interactions, nor contributes to either of their character arcs. It just exists to fill a shipping quota and doesn’t affect either character, except for one moment of Mai’s.
>People tend to date people with similar interests, I was not aware beeing moody counted as an interest. Aside from that and both being from noble households, they both charge very little in common, it’s why all they could have them do in the beach episode were designated cute couple things and why their interactions felt rather...boring.
