I know a few people who 'made it' in the animation industry, they all want the same - to make great art and work for a company who allows them to. You don't stick with your kiddie dream of wanting to be an animator unless you really fucking love animation, it's not an easy or cheap thing to pursue.
One of them has gotten a sweet ass gig as a story-boarder and character designer for Cartoon Saloon and got to work on Song of The Sea, Puffin Rock, and currently their upcoming movie. She's living the dream, gets to travel the world and work on movies that are genuinely beautiful.
Another is stuck working on shitty ass CGI rendering for a Lego Friends show.
It's not as if these people can pick and choose what kind of movie or show they work on. Unless you're some kind of Disney big shot, you just praise yourself lucky you got hired.
