The Times interview was also really cute for them. I've always assumed those were more improv than scripted, since their attitudes towards each other were much warmer than in anything that was clearly scripted from that period, like RotO or We Are the Dury. I think the two would have had a much less-likable dynamic if Phil and Nelson weren't allowed some liberties in their interpretations.
I just listened to the Times interview again. It's severely under-rated. They even mention the swan-scones, like it became their inside joke. Fucking adorable.
Something that really upsets me is that one of my favorite 2D and Murdoc recordings has completely disappeared from the internet. It was an XFM radio hijack they did during phase 3 at the time of the Escape from Plastic Beach tour. I think it was supposed to have taken place after the itunes interview and the pirate radio, but before the spotify radio show that had the cute detroit moment. In the lost XFM show Murdoc is being uncharacteristically friendly towards 2D, and 2D is suspicious of his behavior. At one point he even asks Murdoc "Why are you being so nice to me?" I feel like it was an important development in their relationship that bridged the way for Detroit. I really want to listen to it again.>>3348795
I didn't love the mocap interviews. The new guy just isn't 2D the way Nelson was. And it doesn't help that the new writing team isn't interpreting him the same way that Cass did either. 2D was an idiot. He'd often lose his train of thought, and he didn't understand what people were talking about so he would respond with non-sequiturs. But he wasn't a toddler. He'd make lewd comments, get upset, and backsass Murdoc even when it was clear he was scared of him. But now it's all feeding cats creme eggs and anxiety. He'd completely lost his edge.
