Episode 16 and onward spends a good majority building up the relationship of two shitty side characters and then completely gets rid of it with "mindwipes lol" which not only wasted time but prevented others from getting development. Then you have the shark-jumping bullshit that was aliens showing up at the last minute (which is actually more of a common problem with mecha shows). Of course there's also the crap with how the MCs get denied their fairy tale happy ending while fucking Mitsukoko gets literally everything handed to them despite Mitsuru and Kokoro being the most useless characters both off and on the battlefield. All so they could have a bittersweet ending that hasn't ever been fucking done before, nope haven't seen that shit a million times in anime.
I'm sorry anon but if you actually liked the ending then you have irredeemable shit taste.
