People talk about it having a political message but I think it's social rather than political, and social issues don't have to be tied to politics (and IMHO they really shouldn't be tied to politics). Specifically it goes into poor versus rich and the difference in freedom and influence that go with that division-- which was already touched on in the prequels, albeit more lightly and less in terms of money. Fifteen to twenty years ago or so this wouldn't be seen as all that political, it's various recent campaigns and freak-outs that have framed it as political.
