Sounds almost exactly like the situation he's been in all his life: mother got knocked up at 16, he was introduced to video games at an early age as a pseudo-babysitter, remained committed to them before, during, and well beyond primary and secondary education, used them as a means to fill the void where social skills would normally be discovered, and generally doesn't talk or associate with new people; most of his friends are people he's only known through family or school.
When he was still living with his parents, his entire world would fall apart whenever he'd get grounded and have his video games taken away. Completely and utterly withdrawn to the point of not being able to function.
