Also as a state they can pass their own legislation to govern themselves as they please so long as it doesn't directly contradict federal laws and mandates.
Hell, sometimes states do pass shit that contradicts federal laws and nobody stops them. Just look at marijuana. The US government is pretty fucking laissez faire when it comes to state's rights.
They're just mad because they can't tell everyone else what to do.
