Is your stomach an independent organism that's in a symbiotic relationship with you? (Technically, it even has its own independent nerve bundle, so it can be thought of as posessing a primitive brain of its own)
What about your skin? Is it just an organism that happens to cover you, hold you together and provide you with sensory input in exchange for you feeding it with nutrients?
