Maybe that guy doesn't pocket $5 at all and instead uses it for tx fees and exchange fees since Coinbase charges a flat fee even if it's a coinbase wallet paying for a pass (coinbase to coinbase). Maybe other wallets like CashApp began restricting withdrawals to a minimum of .001 btc (was .0001) with only a 7sat/B fee (have fun waiting 72 hours). Maybe hardware wallets impose floating rate fees for atomic swaps and exchanges.
Maybe coin usage in certain places has become very restricted and at this point he's using the money earnestly without taking any profit.
