How large of a biogas reactor, and how much weekly input, do you need to run a 3250w appliance 24/7? If you wanted 10x this amount of electricity output, would you need a reactor 10x the size?

How many watts can the reactor output per size unit? Just multiply that number with how many watts you need and then cram it up your ass lol

why? ofc not you can tune it. But every technology is made for an specific impute, you might ruin it much faster. This stayed i cant tune it, i mean a simple fan who blows in additional air would probably do the job. But i am the opposite of a handyman.

What are you talking about, either you build all you life stuff, or you are an engineer concerning him self with an specific technology. There is no how large and now much week input, bicause there are much more factors to consider. You can blow in your reactor pure oxygen to make it faster. What ever, if you have a jet engine like system it probably doesn't break if you feed it with oxygen.
But if you don't build all you life stuff, or a educated on it, i wouldn't do it.

I intend to put organic waste from a farm into it. Cow manure, straw, wood shavings, etc. For simplicity sake let's just say it's built around a proper ratio of manure and grasses/straw.

I'm looking for something like this, but that lists volume to electrical ouptut potential. I can math it out later, but it's been distracting me a ton and I've got finals to worry about right now so I was hoping to either pawn this task off to some autist or have an expert-anon chime in.

So if 5 cows generate a constant 1kw ouptut. So for 3.5kw I'd need 17.5 cows, and the capacity to fit 17.5 cows worth of shit for a month? That's a dishearteningly large volume.

So I know the approximate daily volume that's input, but since the process takes around 30-90 days it may need to be 30-90x the size of the daily input.

I want to be honest with you, tell you the truth, if you dry the stuff and thane simply burn it under an steam engine your output will be significant higher.

Really if you cant sell the produced gas to an better price you are better of just handle the bio waste like coal and burn it under an steam bowl.

My problem is that I have an organic waste excess. I was looking for ways to process it faster than heap composting, and stumbled upon biogas. I'm going to build a reactor for myself, but was wondering what the minimum size would be to generate a decent baseload, say 1500w.

You can use the access heat to dry it and then burn it. As more you convert it as more energy you loose. I have no idea about the market, just keep in mind if they have no little coal/wood reactor you always can tell them that this is not even remotely co2 neutral. Cause converting stuff into gas before burning is a net loss of energy.

I want to generate electricity though. If biogas was such a bad idea over 'drying and burning' people wouldn't be doing it. You're capturing the methane as it decomposes that would otherwise escape. You're talking about biomass reactors basically, or gasification. They're different technologies for different use cases. I do want to build a gasifier or biomass reactor just to learn more about this stuff though, the propsects of generating free electricity off-grid like this is pretty fascinating to me and has applications if scaled up. I would really like to find a farmer willing to let me build a prototype that can maintain a baseload of 3250kw.

I know there's conversion loss. But you're overlooking the fact that 'drying' is conversion as well, and your losing tons of valuable gasses during the process. Obviously manure -> compost -> gas -> burn -> electricity isn't as efficient as manure -> gas, but it may be more efficient than manure -> dry -> burn -> electricty. it also gives me valuable liquid fertilizer.

No it doesn't you loose only water. You can dry it in the sun as well. I guess this, burning it dry compared to burning it after it becomes gas, will be about at least a 40% loss. Even if you need 20% of the energy to dry it its still 20% loss.

I'm just a hobbyist but have access to a network of farmers and waste producers. I'm playing with the idea of building something worthwhile down the road as I hope to acquire land myself here soon.

I will keep your thoughts in mind for the future but for now, for the stuff and process I have in mind, I'd rather accept the conversion loss and build a bigger reactor. Adding the step of drying everything is a whole process in itself.
