Though who am I fucking kidding, GOES west has been half broken for years with literally no effort going to launching a new satellite and GOES east is very long in the tooth. The US government couldn't care less about the scientific aspect of space whatsoever. They will fund an endless stream of classified satellite launches but wont even maintain the official weather agency? And hell as far as I am aware even the coast guard and every military base is using NOAA for weather. Its only the NSA, DOD, and Space force who are allowed to use the fancy tech and they only use it for operations. That or they have been launching something other than a ton of camera sats but I doubt it.
