Basically this. Yt nowadays is fucked with ads, influencers, and whatsoever. There is too much distraction unless you find a way to block with addons, and even so, there is too much mediocracy there. If you can't read something you are basically finished.
Unless it is some braindead job like software development with pajeets and white saviors creating coding tutorials for millions of ''developers''.

Videos are maybe better than books when you follow along. If not, then they're worse.
For working on cars it's a godsend. For math, 3blue1brown visualizations are the best.
I hope the culture shift we will see is widespread better intuitions for basic mathematical concepts. Hopeful/skeptical about VR and 3D/4D.

The biggest threat to legitimate content is the Youtube creator has incentive to make a long retarded video. Simple how-to is the absolute worst thing to watch on youtube, while topics that require more depth can be better.
Always go to the source. Most instructions come from a book and are redundant. They do serve a couple of functions like condensing and picking apart some instruction so that it meets some standard. This board, and probably website, is the worst place to really argue for curriculum as the percentage of people here that could pick apart a book will be way above the norm.
