The true purpose of our nervous system is to trap our consciousness. Neurons accelerate the movement of charged particles to draw a pattern that lures and catches a spirit. The fact that our brain knows that our consciousness exists implies that our consciousness can interact with it. It doesn't necessary interacts with fields, it may be doing some weird fuckery like how photons can touch a mirror and stay a wave.
All particles are waves that spread around until they can find something they want to interact with. Our consciousness can spread around the same way. Until it's trapped and becomes localized.
If we try to build an AI and start listing necessary parts, we would notice that consciousness isn't really required.
Its influence may be hard to detect because it's subtle. Being non random is enough to be useful. Information has value.

It has to interact with fields. From your comment about photons you have some misunderstanding. Everything is quanta of fields, fermions and bosons. Photons are quanta of the electromagnetic field - in popular parlance waves and bosons - that interact as localized particles.

It's all hogwash. Consciousness is emergent from the electro-chemical reactions in your nervous system. Sure you can "extend" your consciousness by visualizing yourself outwards (like driving a car or controlling a character in a video game), but at the end of the day all of that experience is dependent on that nervous system functioning. You change the chemistry drastically, like a chunk of wood suddenly destroying billions of connections at once, and that consciousness ceases to be (or is permanently crippled if it survives).

What consciousness would remain if you're dead? There are no electrical signals transmitted to the brain. The human body is like a system. There are tons of functions the body does that the conscious brain has no awareness off or to a very limited degree. The immune system takes care of a lot of threats that a person would have 0 awareness off. Adaption of the body to wear and tear, constant refreshment of cells and so on, a person wouldn't really have an active knowledge of it unless getting described these processes. We do not even know our own anatomy or how our anatomy should function perfectly without diagrams and visual representations of the human body.

The conscious mind allows us to have some degree of freedom in the space of the world to make more meaningful decisions rather than being a fully automated organism. That is, humans can choose to engage in certain pursuits or not, they can choose to do something, or not to do something. Biological impulses and manipulations do exist to force a choice though. But there still is a choice. This is also easily visible in the more advanced animals in how their decision making works. It's not a 100% logical script, while most bodily functions are following an almost computer script like consistency.

The way you describe this, doesn't this imply that the body "animal" developed this organ/system to tap into "the higher dimension" as an adaptation. The fitness benefits of such a thing are obvious. My first memory was travelling through the cosmos at an extraordinary speed towards Earth and waking up in my Mother's car at 3 years old while we're leaving our village near the petrol station.
I look to my right and see my 2 yr old sister and ask who she is. Mum laughs and says she's my sister. I ask who she is and she laughs again and says she's my mother.

Very similar experience here. I remember seeing myself walking along a country side of sorts up to a church on a hill. I saw a man in a stereotypical tattered, peasant cloak walking up to it. I was in a realm "higher" than earth, I did something against the rules I think and was thrown down into this lower realm to learn I guess, or go through it as a test, who knows.
I don't really believe my memories on this earth will continue after death though, but my pattern will. I felt just as much as myself as a child if not more than I do now so losing my memories isn't something I obsess over.
Children already develop a personality when they have become self-aware, they are themselves without memories. Of course memories, emotions, body, trauma and what not can affect them but that's not them.
As a child I was most like myself, it feels like the last years I've had to unlearn a lot of things conditioned into me and am slowly starting to see the world again as I did when I was younger. I don't believe that children are "happier" I just believe they aren't as delusional as adults and they don't see things through reference and memories, they see things with their intuition and sensors.

I think I have a pre-human memory as well:
