Isn't that basically the same just phrased differently? Your body has more fat than it knows what to do with, so the fat loses function, so you build up an excess of fat.

its more like: the excess of fat puts stress on the body which causes a lose of function
a simple example would be the knee of a morbidly obese "person" because of the massivly increased weigth it cannot function properly since it was "designed" by evolution for the normal weight range
