what other things can i heat up in a microwave?
things with water molecules heat up due to the friction of the dipoles aligning with the standing waves which form.
some metals, i guess, absorb microwaves? if you put a fork in the microwave it will arc, so, i guess if you put a metal bowl or something in the microwave it would probably heat up.
some ceramics heat up, probably because they have water molecules in their structure?

what other things can be heated with a microwave? what determines whether a thing is heatable by microwaves? how efficient is a microwave at heating stuff? like, what if you shot some sort of laser at food (or other things), how efficiently could you turn electricity into heating an arbitrary object?

(obviously resistive heating is efficient at heating a resistor, but wastes energy on heating the air, whereas a microwave oven doesn't appear to heat the air significantly at all, nor the walls of the microwave).
