animals get sick too if they drink the wrong water, pretty often
a couple years ago I visited rural Uganda; a lot of people drink fucking muddy water from rivers and from Lake Victoria, as a non-trivial number of people either don't have running water or have frequent and long outages
of course typhoid is fucking rampant
I remember saying: guys at least boil that shit, you are sick more often than not - a lot of them didn't seem to gaf
they also get malaria all the time, many of them just don't do anything about it, they get sick af, they get treated, usually they recover; I was on antimalarials and putting mosquito nets everywhere, which a lot of people do, but many people don't
other infection they get a lot is brucellosis; they often milk cows themselves pretty unsanitarily, they don't boil it or anything
if not for modern medicine these people would live very short lives
