Do you have one? Are they useful?
I want to buy one because there are no figure drawing classes around and would like to try drawing something human looking that isnt referenced from a JPG.

They are great if you know for what they are used for but they don't work well as replament for actual reference pic or model.

Yes.

Eh. Not really. The ones like the one you posted are extremely limited and can only give you very static, boring poses. I haven't tried the more intricate ones.

This one in particular, is kinda shit
Those from S.H. Figuart or Figma mannequins are better at articulation. Or model kits like Megami Device are also nice to try out poses without having to draw them to see how they'd look like and which angles looks better.

It's not a complete replacement for drawing a figure, but they are fun to draw, and make for nice still life practice. I have about four of them, and I sometimes pose them together to make a 'scene' of sorts. It's nice.

To elaborate, the ones I am most fond of are these magnetic mannequins. While they are still limited compared to figmas and figuarts, they have way more flexibility than the wooden mannequins in OP's picture.

a wooden one and a plastic human one. and a "Bridgman" one, made from three blocks of wood and wire, as suggested in drawing from life.

to some degree, wooden one is a bit meh, but cheap and sturdy

just keep in mind that they are tools, and like any tools, if they don't work, it's maybe because you need to learn how to use them or what they can achieve. like, don't get mad because graphite is erasable
