There are 2 reasons why you might care about this being a trace:
- You're an artist who is morally against the lack of originality/authorship in this piece;
- You're a jealous nigger who calls himself an artist but who wishes you could be the successful cheater.

The heads don't seem amateurish at all to me. I don't really like the stylization, but that doesn't make it "amateurish". Please don't misuse words, that's how we end up with "professional" being conflated for "good" or "skilled".

The style doesn't matter at all here. The faces are flat (not in terms of flat anime coloring, but in terms of anatomy and perspective) and out of proportion compared to the bodies.
The bodies are well polished, while the faces are objectively just polished turds.

It's obvious he used photo ref and then slapped some heads on them, some gaped assholes and changed the hands.
But I have no idea if he traced vs just drawing from reference. I guess tracing is the safe bet because speed is king and this isn't exactly a masterpiece that someone would spend the time on to match their reference perfectly.
