there's a niche for just about anything out there, even stuff that is objectively bad. (remember "the room"?, yes, THAT movie.)
OC stuff just needs to stick out from the common ground and do so in a meaningful or impactful way. most "oc" stuff today doesn't click with anyone because it's generic and worthless garbage everyone has already seen before and in much greater glory.
However, doing something that really sticks out is way harder today than it used to be in the past. And it's definetely harder to do something really original for most artists than it is to just do something good.
