I think eighty or ninety percent of getting better is down to just drawing a lot, every day, and being conscious of where the mistakes/weaknesses are in what you’ve drawn. Which is why getting external input/feedback/critique is really helpful to circumvent your blind spots, although maybe you can get away with just looking at and studying master works and comparing them to your own stuff.
I mainly study from photo refs but I’m trying to get into drawing from life more.
In terms of getting better at volume I think practicing basic shapes like boxes can be helpful. I know people shit on drawabox but understanding boxes is the gateway to understanding any other form imo.
