Anything James Gurney says regarding colour and light. Particularly his book titled "Colour and Light".
It's not that complex to achieve in your art, the ambient light reflecting off the environment is the colour you're seeing on his skin, modulated slightly towards the actual "local colour".
You could also look at Marco Bucci's videos on light/shadow, it'll showcase and explain exactly what you're talking about

What's the point, it's not like you'll be able to do it from imagination. Even when it finally clicks you'll need photo-references constantly because it's just way too nuanced a lighting scheme.
