>>6012113This is roughly false. ACM panels, one of the best surface to paint on for oils in terms of durability, are rather cheap. For training, paper, MDF, etc.
Most durable pigments are low-chroma "dirt" pigments (ochres, iron oxides). White & black are cheap. Ultramarine blue is cheap. Bam, you have an expended Zorn palette that can covers a wide variety of scenario.
As for brushes, honestly, some cheap synthetic brushes can often perform reasonably well.
It *can* be expensive when you don't know what to buy or when you don't understand how to use your tools: if you make a low-chroma red/yellow from cadmiums, obviously things are going to get pricey.
