what i did was use it as an actual social media. you have to engage with other small artists and befriend them and become mutuals with them, so that they retweet your work, keep networking and befriending larger artists while posting good art and you will grow. now im at the point where i dont feel the need to network with mutuals all the time, and i just focus on improving/sharing my best work but its super important early otherwise you are just tweeting into a void.
oh also i never shitpost, i never reply with images as it floods your media tab, and i dont tweet political takes or shit about my life. i just post my work and compliment other artists from time to time and move on. this way i keep my twitter clean and make it easy for people to see my work without having to wade through 1000 tweets/reaction images.
