Is the reduction of quality to "protect" my works, like putting a watermark or shrinking the image so that it prints badly, but still looks good enough online, but not great, even worth the trouble?

Or am I just impeding the poor from being able to download great art online, for free?

What are your opinions?
Any experience with scumbag art thieves who made money with your art?
