This is a thread to discuss all kinds of digital drawing hardware: non-display graphics tablets, pen display tablets, portable tablets and more.
If you have any additional questions, ask them.
Remember to ignore all chinese shills.
>I'm thinking of getting the Wacom One, should I buy it?
Fuck off retard. Ask a better question.
>Recommended tablets:
Intuos 3 - Best screenless tablet. Look for one on Craigslist or Ebay.
Intuos 4, 5 & Pro - Also good options. Will burn through your nibs.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite - Budget portable display tablet. Very solid drawing experience with Wacom EMR tech, but a small 10.4" display area.
Used iPad Pro 2nd Gen 12.9" - Best option for a display tablet.
Galaxy Tab S7+ - Good premium alternative to an iPad Pro
>Avoid:
XP-Pen, Huion, Gaomon and every other Chinese brand - Poor build quality, lackluster pens, broken tilt, struggles to register light pressure, horrible customer support and the displays are not calibrated. All Chinese brands are basically the same because they're all centralized. Check out the webm to understand how bad they are. Also watch out, Chinese companies shill HARD on /ic/; they do a lot of samefagging and frequently hurl personal insults.
Microsoft Surface Pro - The N-Trig digitizer means you will always get wobbly lines.
Lenovo - Bad drawing performance because they're not designed with art in mind.
Cintiqs & other desktop display tablets - Overpriced, prone to problems and will lead to back posture issues.
iPads (brand new)
iMacs and Macbooks - Never buy this garbage under any circumstance. It's a locked ecosystem with rubbish hardware you can't upgrade.

Hello, guy from here
>>6003126 Wondering if there's any noticeable technical differences i should know about between the recommended tablets in the thread, Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, iPad Pro 2nd Gen, Galaxy Tab S7
Also wondering if any of you use a screenless tablet, if yes how does it feel like? And why use that instead of a display, is it just a matter of money?

Holy smokes guys...the XP Pen™ Deco LW drawing tablet is truly incredible. I was skeptical of it at first, but I'm happy to say that experiencing the product first hand has cleared up any doubt. The Bluetooth technology allows me complete freedom in where I choose to draw. The two-shot manufacturing method has created a sturdy and aesthetically pleasing design with plenty of colors to choose from. But the real star here is the X3 Smartchip™ Pen. Pardon my language, but it's frickin' epic. You need only 3 grams of pressure to create a line. With HALF the retraction of previous pens, and no spring mechanism to wear and tear, this pen will stand the test of time and allow your creativity to LITERALLY flow onto the digital canvas. I'm glad I didn't listen to the Wacom agents in these threads and gave XP Pen™ Deco LW a chance. Here's a small sample I whipped up in just a few hours to showcase some of what this beast of a tablet can do

>>6002748 Elo' there duds/dudettes. My mom wants a "tablet" (not a fukken $3k+ wacom screen) to draw, like an iPad, but on the $250-350, maybe $450 range.
I've already seen some guide that said that 4k levels of pressure is top notch. Any good tablets for that price?
As for software, I assume a nicely pirated latest photoshop would do. Any tips resources, etc? Thanks in advance. She is a traditional art aficionado. She paints some times as a hobbies and goes to classes too.

Everything else looks fine, though I would say put your OS on one SSD and then have a second drive to run your programs off of and store your files on so it doesn't get bogged down.

>>6003415 Latest Ipad (not pro/ air/ mini, etc) starts at 329$ (+tax).
I'd suggest buying that and getting procreate ~ as well as some simple stylus (to test your drawing on a tablet skills before going all out and getting the apple pencil) for a grand total of ~370. There's even a program beta called 'Project blue' that's free and allows you to use your ipad as a table for your pc if you want to use your pc programs.
That's what I did and it works well. I'm still beg tier though so take my advice with a grain of salt.

The line just doesn't come out as 'refined' as when I draw with pen on paper.
When I draw traditionally the line just flows like a river, but when I draw on my tablet it's quite difficult to bring my line from point A to the point I want, and I still haven't talk about how hard it is to control the line's thickness.

no seriously why does everyone here recommend screen tablets over screenless ? They're significantly worse by every metric, worse for your wrists, back, neck. worse for coloring, worse for comfortability, portability, not to mention the way technology usually works is that the more complex and intricate the amount of software stuffed inside them alongside un-necessary functions, the more problems you'll encounter. all older generation tablets have a longer life span and less problems then virtually everything created past 2010 (typical capitalistic cash grab designing faulty products) do you anons just want others to fail this badly so you resort to giving dogshit advice to beginners ? Are you really that petty ? This place is abysmal for any kind of advice, I hope you escape one day
Anonymous
>>6017999 You definitely have to take steps for display monitors to be better for your posture. An ergonomic arm helps get it set up like a drafting table or easel. I just put my tablet on a monitor riser or even books on its easel as a cheap option. I just get it set up a little bit below eye level and I don't have to tilt my head down.
For screenless, I'm a manlet with an adjustable desk and I couldn't get my desk low enough so that my arm could be at a floating 90 degree angle. So drawing screenless prevented me from being able to use my whole arm to draw. I ended up getting more wrist pain and shoulder pain from lifting up my arm to try and have clearance to move my arm above my desk.

iPad niggers, do any of you have the Sketchboard Pro? I want a stand and the extra space for your arm seems great, but is it worth the 120 dollars? I draw almost exclusively on my iPad and draw a lot, so will the investment be worth it?

deco 01 has a larger drawing surface and has decent bezels so your palm can rest comfortably on its sides , wacom intuos doesnt have that but i think the pen is more durable , dropped my xp pen stylus once and it broke on me so i had to replace it.

I never had any tablet before I can get the pic related PTZ-930 second hand for 50€ with accessory in pic. Should I go for it or buy a One by Wacom for similar price ? I think the one by wacom suit my needs better since it's very light I can try to draw in any posture I want. Wacom also claim that it has 2000 pressure level instead of 1000 for the intuos 3. So what are the reasons to go for the old intuos instead of the new one ? Some people say the pen of the new one is too light but I don't see why it would be an issue.

>>6023047 That's a great deal for the best size intuos. If that's the pic it looks in great condition and the nibs will last you several decades because intuos 3's have perfect surface texture that barely wear down your nibs. Pressure levels are a meme what matters more are initial activation force which is feather light on the intuos's up till 5 (past that are intuos pros).

Hello, I want to ask people who had the opportunity to try out different brands/models for their experience with how much the nib retracts into the pen when pressed down. I'm currently using a pic rel Huion HS611. I've mostly had positive experiences, drivers work perfectly fine for me and I didn't notice any line wobble. The only problem of the ones spammed by OP every time that I can confirm is that the brush rotation based on tilt in photoshop is buggy as hell, but I'm too beg to event want to use it anyway so I don't care. What slightly annoys me is how the nib is retracting when pressed against the tablet. I would say that under maximum pressure it retracts by around 1 mm, but most of the retraction happens on low pressure levels, so even when pressing lightly the nib retracts by ~0.5 mm or so. Is this just how pen tablets work, or is it the le lackluster chinese pens? I was thinking of ordering an used intuos 3, but I wanted to know if this is something that will be fixed by switching brands first.
Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>6025649 In my experience the huion pens that I've tried feels a lot more "spongy" because of the way the nib retracts, it doesnt feel like the nib retracts more or less during different pressures. The wacom pens I've tried feels alot more firm and only retracts slightly during lower pressure. It feels a bit nicer to use than the huion ones i own but this might just be a one off thing
Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>6025443 From my experience the nibs themselves don't wear down the surfaces unless you consistently press very hard over a long time. Mine's approaching 2 decades old and there's only a few scratches due mishandling or wiping when there's sharp particles on it. The question comes down to whether you can get 15+ year old intuos 3s with spotless surfaces. Else there's an insignificant difference between the 3s and 4+ if you're going to put a sheet cover on it anyways.

My Intuos Pro L has fucked charging. I need to physically remove the battery and charge it in a third party battery charger in order to even use the thing anymore. I've seen this seems to be a pretty common design flaw with the tablet I have. It's not the end of the world since I can at least still use the thing in wireless mode, but it does sometimes stutter or even turn off.
