Considering dropping out of the liberal arts school I'm in right now to take classes at an atelier (tuition increased 10% and I come from a low income family)
Are there any other benefits to taking classes at an atelier BESIDES learning classical drawing and painting? Like would there be internships open to students and other oppurtunities to find work? Because I know it doesn't JUST take skill to get an art job

OP all you'll ever need is Vilppu, and maybe Proko, if you ever need anything else like animation there's Richard Williams, and those 3 are on every pirate website out there, just download them, and quit art school.

If you need to level up your nepotism skills to get an art job, learn to do really good blowjobs.

Art is the type of career where you do everything yourself, no one's going to handhold you to the finish line unless you get really lucky.
The entire basis of an atelier is to train your eye so your hand can duplicate the information onto paper or canvas and then you specialize, unless you want to do fine art I wouldn't suggest staying in an atelier too long, too many people do and I don't know why. I think it's a comfort zone thing.

I don't suggest pirate for newbies. Guides are free and I rather spending money to support seniors than steal from them. Plus when you search on your own, you learn it faster rather than sitting through the whole course or read a book.

Yes quit and go to the atelier, you will learn how to draw.
Also there are private teachers that help you with what YOU want to do, even if its anime style they coach you and get help you get there.

really the only appeal of art schools is industry connections, much of the things they teach can be learned at a twentieth of the cost if you just use available books and resources online. doing an online course with a teacher to critique you def can supplement not going to an art school. i would say that art school is definitely good on paper, though, for being able to live at a place and do nothing but draw with other people for 4 years straight sounds like a dream, but esp here in the states the quarter mil in debt youll get saddled up with afterwards makes it more of a trap for people blindly chasing dreams

really i would drop out and find a private coach that can teach you what you want to learn, then make a portfolio based around it. the pricetag for artschool isn't really feasible, esp for people w low household incomes.

I'm not American, actually a shitty worlder, but if OP's reading this, here's my golden advice in case you still wanna go to art school:

Apply for an art school in a shitty hole country like mine, the price tag is really low because of your mighty dollar, and there's plenty of foreigners here, the downside? you have to learn Spanish or other flthy language like that...

Yea, I figured taking a few classes to get fundies down would be good, I don't think my art is extremely /beg/ but I know I need more fundies to improve composition, anatomy, etc
I want to do comics or character design, so regardless I'd want a good grasp of the basics

The connections are the only reason I'm considering just staying and trying to find scholarships to shave off the costs, but my school isn't exactly known for illustration or animation majors
Without revealing the school I go to, a good few well known animation industry people went to the school... but ended up transferring to other schools actually known for visual arts

Personal coach/teacher route sounds like a good idea, thanks anons :) some of my school's facilities might be cool, but not good enough for almost 40k a year

using an online debt calculator, if i plug in an average apr of 5%, be generous and say you'll take out 120,000, and have a 10 year term, you will have to pay 1273 every fucking month from now until 2032 or 2033, depending on when you graduate. every fucking month. for 10 years. i would definitely do this yourself op with how much you think you'll take out but odds are its not feasible.

Yea, that was my original plan, this year was my first year and I only had to pay less than 2k because of some pretty good scholarships, but since this insane school hiked up tuition so much, the amount of time it'd take to apply to a shit ton of scholarships only to get a little bit taken off is not worth my time at all

I guess the only thing left to do is to break it to my folks :l but I think they'll understand because of how fucking expensive this shit is

It varies from country to country a lot, Chile is way safer than Venezuela, just compare their IDH, Chile is almost paradise in comparison.
