dall-e 1 was released last year and looked like pure, incoherent shit
but the dall-e-2's improvement is undeniable and frightening

in a decade digital artists might be doing less drawing and more curating and tweaking of ai generated images

What honestly bothers me way more is how misleading this whole thing is. Al those AI's do is pick up someone artwork, liquefy, change some colors and add some filters and they call it an original piece, is a pretty shitty thing to do even for a human, but calling groundbreaking when all you are doing is stealing someones hard-work and passing as some sort of code magic is pretty ridiculous.

If the AI's did everything from zero I would be less critical, but seeing niggers like OP coming here to doompost about something so shitty and so stupid made to wow normalfags is really fucking annoying, all those threads, everything is just bullshit, Is really fucking annoying to watch and even saying something there will always be that one fucking idiot that don't bother to listen and another stupid nigger OP is created.

It starts with a white noise image you retard, editing from an existing image is just one of its features (and guess what, that's what most concept artists do). Just accept it, AI passed the Artistic Turing Test. The good news is that if you arent a mediocre /beg/ artist you have nothing to worry about.

Though it does have editing functionality, so you can generate an image and ask it to change it in certain ways.

This is a grift to get more funding and interest for their research, as always. The images on the site are clearly incredibly cherry-picked (if not outright faked) and the images generated by people who have actual access to the thing right now doesn't look nearly as impressive as the examples listed on the site (though they're still pretty impressive for an AI). You shouldn't need to worry about this shit for a while anyway, machine learning is turning out to pretty much be a dead end.

Don't be. Until we hit human intelligence levels of AI computers will never be able to generate art with the kind of specificity that clients (corporate or personal) want when buying art.
In addition while technology may have killed some industries on a large scale some small portion of those industries remain as nostalgia pieces. Nobody really needs shoes made entirely by hand with no machines and yet a decent number of businesses exist which do just that.
Remember: The economy is made up and business success is 90% marketing. Pet Rocks sold millions of dollars and beanie babies are hot in the secondary market to this day.

Automation is a massive meme. A decade ago we had tons of articles where people where ranting and raving about how we'd have fully autonomous cars by now and as it turns out full automation for cars may as well be impossible and unrealistic with Tesla frequently faking the results of their self-driving capabilities for better press. Not to mention that there are a ton of fields of manual labor that are seemingly impossible to automate because machines are not precise or specialized enough to handle a lot of tasks required to fulfill the job, even iPhone manufacturing struggles with getting fully automated. Not only that but the jobs that can currently be automated don't always get automated because producing machines that can handle the task and pay for their power and maintenance is often more expensive than just hiring some Polish dude for minimum wage.

Ironically enough it seems like tech jobs, the jobs that people about a decade ago where sure would be the last ones to be automated, are the ones that are getting automated at a rapid rate. Computers can already just fart out code themselves and reiterate on their own models which is increasingly making a lot of low-end coding jobs irrelevant.
