i tried this book the other day, the foreword sounds really promising and motivational (the sooner you make your first 5000 mistakes the sooner you can start correcting yourself blah blah, i kinda like that quote), then i got to the first exercise and it was complete nonsense. i skimmed ahead and the """example""" art looked so unsettling and schizo-tier it still creep me the fuck out when i think about it later. i only barely recovered my sanity by going back to more scientific books. i'm REALLY curious what the art of someone who has done 450 hours of this thing look like

oh yes seeing as this is a book that wants you to spend 3 hours on each exercise and to not read one paragraph ahead until you're done with that exercise i can see the clear relationship between it and all the ngmis sticking with it kek

Of course you're supposed to read and do the exercises but if it takes you more than 20 hours of active working thru it to complete the book you're obviously way on over your head and won't grasp even a slither of what it's trying to teach you

I'm pretty experienced, good coordination and dexterity. I've worked through a Bridgman book that has sloppy drawings before in one sitting and it took me quite nearly that long (16 hours). I somehow doubt that 20 hours is enough to get through some of the more technical books out there like Hampton (241 pages) ESPECIALLY if you're actually reading it as well as drawing-with the aforementioned book I sure as hell wasn't reading shit and it still took me from the moment I woke up to just past bedtime to complete with minimal interruptions.

This. BASED Burne. I can't believe people don't give him more credit. Hogarth's material is far more readable and more constructive than Bridgman.
