Its honestly pretty crazy that the vast majority of adults, even the very successful ones can't draw much more than a stick figure.

It's a pretty nice feeling that if your drawings look even 1/4th as good as the people you look up to you're probably still in the top 10% of adults in terms of drawing ability. Really puts in perspective how hard we all are on ourselves.

sure but drawing is way more accessible than all those things, literally every child draws and colors and maybe paints
plus its barrier for entry is insanely low, literally just need a pencil and paper

and most people have a computer today, you also only need a pencil and paper to make a math proof. It has probably never been as accessible to buy what you need for carpentry. I really don't get your point. Most people count when they are kids, sharpen a stick and play a video game too?

I really wonder why my high school art class didn't even try to teach even the very basics of observational drawing.
I know they probably want kids to express themselves without worrying about results too much, but it's very discouraging when all your attempts look like shit, especially for a child.That must have convinced many a young potential artist that they just lacked some innate talent and made them give up before ever even trying.

I remember hating art classes in middle school. I hated them so much it actually led me to supress and hide my liking not only for visual art but also film and theater and other art forms until my very late teens/ early 20's.

after all, it’s not like they had an infinite supply of caves, and practicing drawing in the dirt with a stick doesn’t sound like an activity that would reflect very positively vis a vis natural selection
I kinda feel the guys painting buffalos and the guys carving big tiddy bbws out of rock were the same guys that would become shamans
