I would assume by looking up what options for programs there are out there.
Blender is free and apparently being used more and more.
Then you could look up youtube video's to get the basics of the program down or find a school or course that teaches you

look up a box modeling tutorial on youtube for whatever program you want to use. this should teach you all the basics. blender is free but has a steep learning curve, you can pirate other programs like maya and 3ds max which I personally prefer.
