Maybe you can eventually figure out the rules of perspective yourself, just by looking at how other people draw boxes, but you can also just look them up and have the right answer immediately.
You don't start learning math by looking at the notes of a famous mathematician and copying the symbols. You start learning with a primary school teacher, who knows fuck all about math, patiently explaining basic algebra in the shortest words she can think of. This is a dumb comparison, but it's one you made, so I'm running with it. If you're worried about learning as fast as possible, you shouldn't blindly do things others do without trying to understand why.
