I don’t know if you actually keep up with animated porn, but here is a lot of really good 3d animation that’s up to 30 minutes long, with voice acting, sfx, the whole thing. Nobody worth anything makes 3 minute loops of 5 seconds of animation. The roi on 3d is just so much better because even at the zero point, you have everything to immediately focus solely on the animation.
People would definitely get behind high quality 2d animation, but no more than they would get behind high quality 3d animation, which is infinitely more economical for a single person to a small group of animators. Choppy 2d loops are no more attractive than choppy 3d loops, and the 3d ones have the advantage of extremely high quality 3d models regardless of the animator’s skill or time investment.
The worth of a halfassed animation is less than the sum of its parts (ie the individual frames).
