>>5953942The less reference you have to use the faster your comic making process is going to go because you don't have to rely on finding the exact thing you want. It's good to have memorised some basic things like all sorts of poses in perspective and whatnot since the characters will mostly always be the main focus.
For anything else it's always best to use reference, even if it's just basic blockins for the bg or a perspective grid at least.
I see yoshikadu making more use of 3d figures recently but he was pretty good at drawing before that, you can tell it's just a time saving technique for him and not a crutch.
I think before you make a comic you should try doing a few 1 or 2 page spreads and see what the quality is like after 10-12 hours and you can usually use that as a barometer because that's always going to be your pages at its best and most polished.
You can typically expect your normal pages to probably be half as good, just a useful test to see where you might be if you decide to start doing comics.
