>>5952331The irony is that this exact artist was shown by my Russian painting teachers as an example of bad art. They said the handling of the different materials was all the same everywhere, the drapery is devoid of color, the handling of the edges without variation. They said it's good photography and beautifully posed pretty girls, but that shouldn't be a crutch to ignore appealing brushwork and clear color choices.
At first I did not understand and I felt kinda dumb because I like looking at those paintings. After some time and years of training I realized how absolutely bland the brushwork is, how uninspiring the drapery and how everything is the same everywhere in the whole painting. I was blinded by lust.
Anyways, I am not saying I am a better painter than him (my teachers were though), but looking at his work always reminds me to keep in mind that it is my duty to show color vibrations, different materials and edges in a fresh manner.
