The marvel movies only work because it's brand new and 100% standalone, with everyone being on the same page having watched it all from the start. But even they're starting to Crack as years go on and as they throw on all these side TV shows.
The only reason I think the comic book industry is dead is because of how pervasive this idea of recycling their old heroes and worlds are. Just cut it all out, make a bunch of stand alone short story universes that exist in isolation, and move on to the next. It ain't hard and manga literally already does it.
Or maybe the west does, but its buried so far under the Frontline Oldhat capeshits that nobody even knows it exists.
