Technicalities cannot be overlooked when working with trad mediums, you need to have a deep appreciation of the materials if you want to control them, which takes time to develop. That's why you don't see a lot of people with expertise in multiple mediums, because this is too demanding and people tend to be kinda lazy when they've reached a comfort zone.
