In my experience, being able to communicate and work with someone else in a somewhat professional and responsible manner is probably the biggest factor in actually getting work/being ready to get some work.
Upwork is very flooded by a lot of people and shitty jobs, so unless you have anon's luck and can do US jobs while being bases there, you probably have a chance. Otherwise, have fun endlessly applying to no replies.
