Saturn Devouring his Son has nothing to do with Saturn or sons. “Saturn” is Goya and hes staring at a painting of his mistress across the room and devouring her. It’s about lust and sex.

I heard about that, it was on his wall and people just assumed it was Saturn because it was after his death and he was a Anon before his time who never left his home or something like that?

I don't if is about lust, I think is hate and contempt against humanity, he hates people so much he probably wants to devour them out of pure spite. I say that because I feel the same.

I have a good one. Puberty from edvard is actually his little sister who died at age of 15. If you read his biography you know his mother and sister died when he was a kid from tuberculosis and most of his painting float around this theme, death. I think is he sister because another paint of his called sick girl, that is obviously a reference to his sister so puberty that follows the same themes is just another rendition of her dying young.

The scream is not about horror, is a mirror, that's why is facing to the viewer, we are seeing a rendition of Edvard soul as he screaming of dread. Just think about, if you would draw how you feel wound't you do a character facing you like a mirror?

I'm really pround of this theory since took me years of studying his work to get to those conclusions, I always enjoyed Edvard because he was the one who triggered my first heavy emotional reaction to a painting when I was a toddler and took me years of my infancy and adolescence trying to find why that silly painting burned with such deep sadness, but now I know.

The most striking thing about that painting to me is not the horror of the act or the act itself but the painful expression on the big guy face. It's obviously supposed to be the focal point, the whole point of the painting. He was horrified of his own action, yet he could not stop doing it. As for if it was about addiction or just the fear of living or something else, only goya could really know, we can only make assumptions

Evard is my favorite painter too. His works trigger this sort of emotional response in me that no other artists ever does.
