I saw this on the news the other day of a self-proclaimed art prodigy who was only taught by his cousin. The left painting was from 2020 at 11 years old and the right was from 2021 at 12 years old. Can this kind of progression be done by an adult with an average learning capability?

It's just perfecting being photocopierand using grids. None of own intention and skills like construction and building visual library to be able to draw things from imagination.

Of course an adult can do that. In fact I think you should try it if you want to draw realism one day (you can’t be expected to draw something from imagination if you cant even draw it when its in front of you.) You can easily get to that level in under a year if you just stay consistent.

It's actually cruel how fast your gains seem to get when you focus just on copying. You do these incredible drawings by copying things (I'm talking more about bargue plates not hyperreal morgan freeman) and it makes you think that you're a lot better than you are. Then you try to draw from imagination and it looks so much worse

I found that copying a photo is also better for composition and aesthetic. Whatever you decided to copy has already been through the gamut of social media and filtering. A bad photo or a bad drawing would never make it to your desk for copying. It would be so unpopular it would never get enough escape velocity to make it from the creator to you. It’s actually quite surprising how the natural filtering process works so well for creators and consumers.
