Why am I only able to draw figures from imagination? I can draw anything from reference, but 90% of my imagination work is garbage. It feels like there's just nothing in my head to draw from if I try to picture a face or a cartoon and I just end up constructing a generic head.

If I try to draw figures from imagination though then I have a very clear mental image of figures in elaborate poses, I can feel the flow of the body, it's extremely comfy and easy.

Didn't Claire Wendling say that she had this problem or am I misremembering? That figure drawing was much easier for her than faces
