Has anyone else kind of developed a disdain for what you do? Like especially if you do it well and you're categorically "good".
Myself for example (work is not mine but skill is similar) when I started with painting portraits and figures, both digitally and traditionally, I thought it was a kind of noble/respectable skill to have. Now after reaching a certain level and being used to receiving enthusiastic appraisal not only do I have imposter syndrome but that almost everyone else is a fraud too. I'll see a technically good potrait
It might also be for the fact there's a new wave of procreate pinterest artists it's made "digital art" feel so fucking cheap. Yet they'll have hundreds of thousands of fans lapping the shit up like it's something special.
But even looking at real painters, like older guys who have dedicated most of their life to getting a master level skill in oil painting portraits and figures, I still just see their work as overrated hobbies.
And even if the painting is more ambitious compositionally sometimes I'll just think "wow, you spent an absurd amount of time copying a bunch of different reference photos just for this one, 2 dimensional picture"
It's almost killing my motivation to continue a career in fine art. But also maybe many fields are full of frauds who don't deserve the money they make and I'm just starting to grow up and realise that. Am I just being overly cynical and need to get over myself? Could it be that I'm being over-exposed to skillful artists online that I've devalued my own skill level? Or maybe I just need to pursue something more ambitious in art...
