depending on your level of understanding and your skill level, for example I can start from a broad brush stroke and begin sculpting it into shape and then proceed to color, or I can begin with a sketch and work my way up to finished product. This is the outcome of understanding the fundamentals, every project just becomes a fun puzzle rather than a headache.

It's a bust shot and the background is a gradient with some stars sparkled in. The coloring are just skin, clothing (2 colors only) and hair. Shading is just simple overpaint (or multiply layer) with some airbrush gradation here there. Yeah I can see him pulling it off in 1 hour. I've done similar in 1 hour as well.

Not that anon but why do some people discount fundies?
I've seen improvements focusing on fundies. slowly small aspects of the work are becoming easier, faster, and more enjoyable. I become more flexible in what I can do. When I was just drawing everyday for years I never saw this kind of improvement, things never got less frustrating.
I can't help but feel like the pro artists/teachers who recommend it can't all be wrong lol. Does anyone have an actual case against fundies?

overthinking, construction, perspective lines and doing tedious linework are the biggest wastes of time. Not every drawing that is made requires these things. This is why asians are able to practice more as they end up having more time to draw.

He says in an interview that from a very young age he figured out perspective naturally without any formal training.
So, he just looked at life and figured it all out by himself without needing to read a book on "the fundies".

It's just a trendy thing to do these days. Like writers who insist they don't need to outline or plan arcs because they can just fly by the seat of their pants to produce the great American novel.

He says in his Proko interview that he learned and refined his perspective in art school, and that that is how he become properly proficient. Also, artistically thinking about and working on fundies as a kid with no training is still working on fundies.
Kim 100% has been grinding fundies for years. In regular pro style he just doesn't think much of it.

Exactly... all this "learn form, learn gesture, learn perspective, learn anatomy." I'm not a pro and don't have time for this crap. All these pro artists just want to sell their books and online courses
